This course introduces the basic health and safety principles of manual handling and moving people. It is designed to ensure safety for staff when moving objects or people in a workplace. In certain workplaces such as hospitals or care homes, there is often a need to move individuals who have limited mobility.

Injuries caused, or made worse by manual handling are common in the nursing profession, due to the various lifting requirements throughout the day.
This course aims to educate the learner in ways in which they can keep themselves safe and aware of risks when carrying out such actions.

On average, in one year almost 40% of injuries that last more than 3 days are due to lack of correct manual handling – taking these courses reduce the risk greatly.

This course covers the manual handling regulations concerning lifting.lowering objects, as well as pushing and pulling trolleys and other equipment.

The course also also includes guidance for moving people, including using equipment such as assisted stands, slides and hoists.

The Moving and Handling modules are:

  • Module 1 – Prevention And Preparation, Risk Assessments, Mechanical Aids, Environments and Injuries
  • Module 2 – Techniques, Lifting and Lowering, Mechanical or Machine Aids
  • Module 3 – Moving People, Preparation, Assisted Stand, Sliding, Hoists, Review
  • Module 4 – Law Basics, Regulations for employers and employees
  • Assessment

Please note this online course is an awareness guide and if you are required to perform the moving and handling described within it you should seek further training in order to physically demonstrate your technique and have it professionally analysed.
